Port of Calais'presentation
Located on the Dover Strait, Calais is the leading port in continental Europe for RoRo traffic, the 4th french port for goods and the top port in France for passenger traffic.
Around 40 million tons of freight transit every year through the port of Calais (Cross-Channel traffic: accompanied and unaccompanied freight. Specialized traffic: new trade cars, submarine cables.Bulk and conventional traffic: import and export of industrial products and agregates, import of sands, export of sugar ).
A regular service for trade cars is operated bound for english ports.
Calais is involved in various projects to accomodate the future traffics. A new rail terminal will be opened in 2010 and a master-plan named CALAIS PORT 2015 is developped to extend the port capacity throught the construction of a new breakwater and several new berths.
